App Description

Music Memos is the easiest way for songwriters to capture and organize new musical ideas. Use your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to record acoustic guitar, piano, voice, or any musical instrument as high-quality, uncompressed audio. Then name, tag and rate your ideas to start building a library of all your favorite new song parts and riffs. Music Memos automatically detects your tempo, rhythmic feel and chords and lets you instantly hear your musical idea accompanied by a rhythm section with realistic drums and bass. View the chords you’ve played, add comments and lyrics, or share your recordings with friends or directly to Apple Music Connect*. And it’s easy to take your favorite ideas into GarageBand to add more instruments and continue building your song. Quickly capture musical ideas • Easily record any musical idea using a simple interface • Instantly listen to your recorded song ideas with a virtual drummer and bass player, who follow along like a live band in the room • Adjust the groove and sound of the drum or bass using simple and intuitive controls to hear your song idea in different ways • Tune your guitar with a built-in instrument tuner Build a library of song ideas • Name any song idea, or delete unwanted recordings • Tag your song ideas to help you find them later using keywords like verse, chorus, mellow, energetic, or add your own custom tags • Rate your song idea 1-5 stars to help you identify your favorites • Supports iCloud Drive so your library of song ideas are always safe and available across all your iOS devices View, edit and document your song ideas • Automatically analyzes the music you played and displays musical measures and suggested chord names • Rename or provide further detail for any chord names throughout your song • The drum and bass performances adapt immediately to match any chord and rhythm edits • Trim away any unwanted parts from the beginning and end of your recording • Keep track of comments, lyric ideas, alternate guitar tunings or capo position Share your new song • Use iCloud Drive to make your song ideas available across all your iOS devices • Email any song idea to a friend to share your music, or to collaborate with other musicians • Quickly open your idea in GarageBand for iOS to add more instruments and keep building your song • Export a song idea to the Mac so you can work in GarageBand or Logic Pro X as a full multi-track production • Share to SoundCloud, YouTube and Apple Music Connect* * Requires Apple Music Connect account

App Reviews

  • Crushed

I have recorded numerous songs with this app that I no longer have access due to switch from regular storage to iCloud storage Apple users beware!
  • Easy to use but needs work

As a musician who plays in band, I use this app to record rehearsal when we are writing new music. My biggest gripe is the audio is always distorted and muddy since we play at a decently loud volume. Why isn't there an input level control knob??? Or perhaps a built in limiter? The addition of this feature would be greatly appreciated.
  • I so wish this app was everything it could be

Needs better organization. Needs a Mac version. Needs bugs fixed. Pretty much every time I try to record it starts and stops the first time and creates a 2 second empty recording. I really want to love this app. It has all the potential for greatness. I was super excited when it first released. But after hundreds of recordings it has bogged down and has become almost unusable. Please fix it and update it. It has so much potential.
  • Needs better GarageBand compatibility

Trying to use an idea from music memos is really clunky. There’s no way to manually the tempo once in GarageBand, so you’re at the mercy of the iffy-at-best tempo sensing in the app. Otherwise a good idea.
  • Buggy

Lags all the time. Takes around 20 seconds to open a file. Sometimes stops recording for no good reason, yet continues to show the waveform on the display so you think it’s still going. As time goes by performance of this app gets worse. Disappointing.
  • Needs to be updated.

Current build will not load my stored music memos, and is not fully optimized for iOS 11 or iPhone X. Please update this, as I am a huge fan of the app.
  • Apple’s Forgotten App

    By Caleb J Prewitt
Honestly, this is a great idea for an app, but Apple has forgotten it. Over a month after the iPhone X has come out and still no update for screen compatibility—Music Memos’ lack of attention is tarnishing the reputation of Apple. The amount of bugs is pretty surprising... and I can’t believe that Apple of all companies—who is supposed to be huge supporters of music and the arts—is not paying attention to this app.
  • Nice concept, bad bugs

It’s so laggy it’s basically unusable on my 6s+. Just switched to the Spire recording app which lets you record multiple instruments and has a cleaner sound. Apple needs to update this.
  • It’s like the hot girlfriend with a million problems

    By Slowmotionaudio
This app is everything a musician or singer could wish for. And it’s Apple’s redheaded stepchild. With the iPhone X out for a month now, still no update. I’m staring at a box in the middle of the screen. It is unreliable. I make a recording and it freezes. That recording is gone and I can never get that take back. It can be very sluggish. I want to open the app and hit record. It stalls and loads and recognizes the first press as a double if you try before it’s not finished with its sluggishness. Every time I open it , all the songs say “updating” because I’m connected to iCloud. I have to sit and wait before doing anything. AND Out of all the apps in the world why in the world can’t I listen to my memo when I exit the app? Also, I want to record while I exit the app. I keep my notes in a separate app. Or maybe I want to look at chords and lyrics in a website. With all that being said, it’s a great concept. I love how easy it is to add bass and drums. The sound quality is great. I love being able to share anywhere I want. Feature request : please allow me to add just one layer of audio on a memo. Just one! For less guitar or harmony ideas etc.
  • It’s a nice app but, it needs some work

    By codeman7712
Like the title says. It’s nice but there problems with it. My “Ideas” take literally forever to “prepare” and it doesn’t stop. How am I supposed to remember what my ideas are if I can never hear them again?
