App Description

FINAL FANTASY Initially released in Japan in 1987, the original FINAL FANTASY amazed audiences with its rich story and stunning graphics. Players guide the Warriors of Light as they set out on a quest to restore the crystals to their former luster. Its side-view battles, choice and promotion of character classes, and sprawling world explored with fantastic vehicles quickly became standards of the series. This game set the stage for all FINAL FANTASY games to come. This release also contains the bonus dungeons added to later editions of the game--the Soul of Chaos and the Labyrinth of Time. Additional Information (reference only): ESRB Rating: E10+ with Mild Fantasy Violence and Suggestive Themes * This app is not compatible with "FINAL FANTASY (Portal Version)."

  • Honestly a good port

Very identical to the PSP dawn of souls port of the game. Very well done and seamless. In my play throughs have not experienced any glitches or game ruining experiences. It is final fantasy 1, the game that they made without any precedence and have since revolutionized the genre. For those who are expecting a streamlined gameplay where everything is made for the players convenience I'm afraid this isn't it. This game was made as a last ditch effort by Square, and as many last ditch efforts, it doesn't have that nice layer of polish we are used to. If you like RPGs with a polish I recommend final fantasy 4 or 6. The added dungeons are a nice touch to those who enjoy a challenge. But one big issue I have with the game is that there isn't really a challenge. The original port was pretty difficult (granted you didn't do the peninsula of power). And this game isn't very challenging until you hit the bosses, in which the difficulty spikes absurdly. 4/5 would recommend to the hardcore final fantasy fans, casual players I would suggest take a stab at 3, 4, or 6. (2 is pretty bad and 5 has many qualities that this game has)

I'm very disappointed in this port. The controls are terrible. Level up stats are wonky and random. Say hello to 1 and 2 hp increases!
  • Control Pad- Boooo

Change it back to a permanent D-pad on screen, please!
  • Over nerfed.

I really don't understand the changes they made compared to the original. Bosses are way to easy. In fact, everything is too easy. I did the trial to upgrade the heroes before i even got the second crystal. That's usually about the very last thing you do in the game. They could have at least lowered the encounter rate, if they were going to make the mobs so redundantly easy. It's much higher than the original nes version. Not only that, they decreased the types of monsters you encounter in dungeons and the world map. It's very tedious and annoying. The bonus dungeons are worthless and add no value to the game whatsoever. Just a bunch of overpowered items that you don't even need to complete the game. Only giving it 2 starts for the graphics upgrade. Otherwise would have been 1.
  • DPad is too big. Menu sound effect too loud. Not widescreen.

It's hard to enjoy this game with a giant DPad taking up half the screen. It's bad enough to have a thumb between the screen and my eyes, I don't need this oversized DPad on the screen as well. The menu sound effects are just too loud. Give the option of lowering or muting it. And why isn't this widescreen? This game started as a widescreen game on the PSP. It may have been ported during 4:3 iPhones, but the laziness of not updating is very strong with SE. You may could've gotten away with this junk during earlier smart phone releases, but that was then. Your supporters deserve better.
  • Maybe too old to do this!

I eagerly paid for and downloaded this game, in the mood for a trip down memory lane. Alas, when I open and start the game, it shows me a cast of characters that I am supposed to give news to, but I don't see any way to do this. When I click on a character, I would have thought a keyboard or other way of naming the character would be available. How have others surpassed this issue?
  • After iOS 11 . . .

This game won't work. iOS 11 will only support 64 bit apps. Unless this app gets updated then it will become completely useless. Even though I purchased this app years ago I still want to be able to play it later down the road. I guess we play the waiting game with Square to see what they'll do.

Personally I haven't been a final fantasy fan, but after I played final fantasy XV on Xbox one, I was hooked. I wanted to play more, and saw this when searching on the app store. Its a bit pricey, but worth it
