App Reviews

  • Cannot Run Inside Abelton

    By I Like Good Podcasts
I would give this 5 stars if it would only run insdie Abelton Live! Without using soundflower (which is not ideal for playing live) Mainstage cannot be run insdie Abelton and this makes it worthless to me! It would be SO easy for Mainstage to do this but I’m giving them 1 star beause they simply choose not to. This is me BEGGING Mainstage to enable rewire inside of Abelton!
  • Working pretty good now

    By andreyrd
Used to crash pretty often when switching between Edit & Perform modes, but that might have been because it was still downloading and installing all the sounds. Seems to be working pretty good now. Love the gigantic library of sounds it comes with. That alone makes it worth the price.
  • 3.3.1 Introduced a bug

    By Qwertypoiu6hv
Great app, but 3.3.1 introduced a bug in which you canot change the background images. Minor, but stay on 3.3 or wait for another update.
  • Broken

    By Altavious
I’ve spent all day trying to get through downlading the “essential sounds and samples” that it needs to work properly. It looks like people have been having this issue for years and it hasn’t been fixed.
  • Absurd value.

    By Patrick I
It’s hard to say anything negative when for $30, you can turn your Mac into the most full-featured synth you’ve ever had. There are piano plugs-ins that alone cost 10x what Mainstage costs that don’t match the quality of the Steinway included with Mainstage. I use a Roland FA for live performance, since I don’t want to bring a Mac to performances, but at home, Mainstage on my 5K iMac is the clear choice.
  • Loses Midi

    By A2daM2daV
I almost loved mainstage. However, It seems like it get worse with every update. After this last update, it is unuseble. For some reason, everytime I switch patches, the midi connection is lost. Therefore, I have to reset the midi every single time I switch patches. It is completely lame, and it wasn’t an issue until this last update (3.3). I too, like others, have called Apple and they have no clue about anything regarding Mainstage. In fact, I don’t even think they know what MainStage is. It’s time for them (Apple) to start taking these complaints serious, and stop ignoring us consumers.
  • MIDI Channel bug

    By chris77dsl
I’ve used Mainstage for years and generally would give it a glowing recommendation. But this most recent update has a critical bug in that it listens to all MIDI channels on all devices despite how you set the concert settings for MIDI PC changes. I can’t begin to describe the train wreck this will create in a live situation if you’re sending MIDI PC messages to multiple instruments. I tried to submit this a bug through the normal Apple support channels, but they had no idea how to handle it. My representative literally had to GOOGLE Apple Mainstage to see what it was. Their only solution was to direct me to the Mainstage website for support. I’m not making this up. It’s generally a great app, but the issue I’ve always had with MainStage is that it can’t decide if it wants to be a truly professional & reliable product, or just a toy. The sounds and features suggest the former while QC and support suggest the latter.
  • Back and Forth

    By Music282
I go back and forth with it. If you are using it for just playing a MIDI instrument live then it is absolutely perfect and works fantastic… The more advanced stuff is where it becomes a pain. I’ve gotten to where I run a lot of loopback tracks and other various tracks on it when I’m playing. All the time I have problems with it not saving. I will manually save it and play it back but when I close the program (even after just saving) it is all messed up when I open it back up. It frustrates me. I spent 6 hours one night making loops and other track effects that I was gonna use for a gig the next morning and I checked everything multiple times and saved multiple times and it was perfect before I went to bed but when I woke up and opened the program back up, the stuff was still there but it was all messed up and not how I left it. There are a lot more things that frustrate me but I’d be surprised if you’ve read this far and if you have, thank you… Overall I would say if you are using it for playing MIDI instruments it’s great and comes with a lot of great patches for the price but if you are doing anything else with it. save your money for ableton
  • Great program. When are we getting 3.3?

    By Paulrb28
This is a great app. I have used it multiple times for running sound effects and queues for Theatrical performances. One star taken away for no longer being able to use the Logic Remote app on my iPad which says it requires MainStage 3.3. Who upgrades the App before the program it is supposed to work with? I’m a bit dissappointed with Apple on this.
  • Layout problem

    By rapmd
I have used Mainstage since it came out and it is a great program. This latest version seems to have a glitch however. I cannot pull in my controls from the control pallette to design my layout. The control”disappears” when I drag it to the layout area. I have re-installed MainStage, restarted computer, deleated preferences, changed user, etc. No luck. Additionally, I have the same issue on 2 computers. I saw another post referencing this as well. It is a fantastic program and well worth the $30, but I’m hoping this issue can be resolved as this makes designing and constructing your layouts impossible.
