My family have done several tours in San Fransisco. We loved the tours. We are super excited to do the Chicago tours. We have done 2 of them and they are great. Hope this app takes off and there are tours everywhere.

I have been to the Mauerpark many times but have never been moved like this. The authentic personal stories of witnesses create a deeply emotional experience. Great journalism! Highly recommended!

Fantastic tour app overall, with a clean interface and user-centric experience. Stories bring you beyond the typical tourist locations. What I valued about my first Detour: *Fantastic narration. Clear, journalistic, with a tone like modern podcasts. *Helpful on-screen images. Street-level photos are key for navigation and wayfinding. Interior photos were also helpful when I couldn't go into a given location because I took the tour early on a Sunday morning. *Timing. I appreciated that the tour allowed me to wait at crosswalks and simply listen to more information or background music until I arrived at the next checkpoint. And it would automatically start the next section once I had safely crossed the street. Smooth! *Repeated story. The theme helped frame all of the information given so you could better process new content. *Community connections. The tour took me into the community where people are, where they live and work and sleep. I appreciate the human connection. *Secret locations. I never knew about the waterfall in the nearby plaza where I do my weekly grocery shopping! *Saved route. I can look back in the app to view the route, with the map, distance, etc. Brings back memories and could also help me find single locations to point out to in-town guests, even if we don't do a full 1-hour tour. *Historic photos. So cool to see the street shots from the past, and to tie them to locations that I had just walked through/learned about. It was nice to circle back to the same photo and apply new knowledge over the length of the tour. *Length. One hour was just perfect for me in terms of the amount of content and number of locations. What didn't work perfectly: *A few times, it was inconvenient to have to walk _exactly_ to a given point to engage the location narration. *In the particular tour I took, there were many names to remember. I couldn't tell if the character would come up again in the story, or if they were simply sharing a first-person account (loved the personal accounts, however). *Some locations were closed when I took the tour (the historic photos on screen also worked, though!).

It was great - much better than I expected, especially with the synced Detour. Count me as a fan!

You can't find anything on this app. Where's the Philadelphia architecture tour?

This is the best money I have spent in the app store. With this guided tour, you have your own private guide. It's a great way to immerse yourself in the neighborhood. Love it! ❤️

My wife and I downloaded the Kevin Burns about the Brooklyn Bridge on a beautiful sunny day in New York. Now I wish we had started doing these tours sooner! The tour was so much better than any other audio tour we had ever been on! The attention to detail, the accuracy of the GPS triggers, the pacing, the post app statistics, they have clearly put a lot of thought and heart into this app. Ken Burns had a lot of good information and pointed out a lot of sights I would have missed or been unaware of their significance. It felt almost like having a friend there with you, guiding you along and pointing out all the interesting sites. The way the GPS triggers guided you along the route was a lot friendlier than "turn left on x street." I appreciated that Ken Burns would say, "look for the Shake Shack and keep it on your left as you walk along this road." It felt a lot more personal. The accuracy was also something that blew my mind. I remember at one point my jaw dropped when Ken Burns specifically pointed out that a police car would be sitting at a certain spot, and it was! Just the sheer knowledge that it displayed was beyond anything I expected. The music that played as you were moving really made the time between points pass quickly when I decided to take a little longer in one spot; subtle and delightful. One feature I really loved was the synced tours. It made it very easy for my wife and I to tour together and be listening to the same thing at the same time. The app is very slick and easy to use and was a great joy to have. Thank you so much for making this such a high quality tour. I can't wait until this weekend to try out our next tour!

After taking two "Detours" last week in LA, all I can say is that I only wish I had done more! Taking a Detour is like taking a walk through your old friend's new neighborhood. Both tours I did were guided by long-time residents and business owners. They were well thought out and held my interest every step of the way. The app does have a glitch or two that it needs to smooth out before getting a full five star rating, but nothing that will keep me from recommending it to all of my friends (and to you)! Happy exploring!

If you don't have an always-on internet connection -- or even a slow connection -- this app glitches out in all sorts of strange ways. In other words if you're a tourist, this tour app is not for you. What were they thinking?!
