  • The Best Travel Experiences!

    By SFrankNYC
I absolutely love Detour. It has provided some of my best travel experiences in the last year. Here are a few examples: Hearing stories about street art in San Francisco, a food tour through Rome including breaks to stop and eat, and a historical narration of the Roman Forum. The tours are narrated by local people with a strong sense of neighborhood history and provide both long and short term background information on a place that connects each anecdote to a poignant theme. The app functionality is great, and the GPS has a very strong sense of where you are. I cannot recommend this enough. It is worth every penny. It is now the first thing we do when we arrive in a new place - look to see what Detours are available!

This app is awesome. I never really download apps but was recommended this for my travels. It's easy to use and the tours are emmersive and so enjoyable. It's such a surprise. Great to use with friends as it has a group mode to walk along with others. Recommends great food spots and places try to sit and rest. In future would be great for it to add accessibility info on it for routes to be accessible for those with disabilities.
  • Amazing Experience

This app is an amazing way to interact with any city. My wife and I have done two of them in San Francisco, where we have lived for over 5 years. It's like an interactive, immersive podcast. We saw amazing new things in neighborhoods we had walked through for years. The narration and production was top notch!

I completed the Broadway walking tour with Joel Grey. Great narrative with appropriate music, inserted conversations and historical photos. The GPS technology worked flawlessly and was easy to follow. Great technology and content creation. It's a beautiful historical record for Joel Grey as well. We have also taken other tours and they are equally good.

  • The Coolest!

I've been checking out Detour since they were testing the app in early 2015. It really is the coolest!! It works seemlessly and provides such insight from eclectic, interesting, knowledgeable, and entertaining people. I just took the SFMOMA Detour this weekend and once again was impressed - especially since the galleries are close together, the app still worked perfectly and allowed me to take photos within the app that later showed up on my "timeline" and in my iPhotos. It's exciting to see how this app has grown and still maintained its original vision of bringing exciting voices to these tours. Definetely try this out if you're exploring by yourself or with friends (syncing option worked great in the museum!).
  • Great app and great tours!!

I'm so impressed with the quality of the tours offered by Detours. The guides are knowledgeable and local. You feel like you are getting a very personalized tour with a good friend. Also, the option to do the tour while syncing with a friend (or friends) is brilliant!
